Cherri Peterson Volkman, 69, died January 27, 2018 of natural causes in her Spanish Fort home. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 12:00 Noon from Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fairhope, AL. The family will receive friends at the church Friday morning beginning at 11:00 AM. She was born February 14, 1948 in Burnsvlle, NC to poor tobacco farmers, Woodrow Wilson Peterson and Bonnie Agnes Robinson Peterson. She was the prettiest girl at Cane Rivers High School. Drawn by the beauty of the Mobile Bay, she moved to Mobile, AL with then husband, Ty Hensley where she became influential in the sewing business as an artist, business woman, and teacher. After raising her children, she remarried to husband, Dale Arnold Volkman, and retired to her Spanish Fort, AL home. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and generously supported the Fairhope Redeemer Lutheran Church, Prodisee Pantry, ASPCA, and local Fire Department. She believed that her greatest accomplishment was being a wife, mom, and sister. She will be sorely missed by all. She is survived by her children, Misty Martin (Steven) and Terence Hensley (Rebecca); grandchildren, Abbi, Alex, Dylan, Grant, and Aislynn; siblings, Steve Peterson, Larry Dean Peterson (Lisa), and Christine Howard (Andy); nephew, Jackie Manis (Sara); cousins, Patricia Rutter (Richard), Priscilla Rasmussen (Phil), Merle Fain, and Gary Fain, other relatives and friends. Her children would like to thank Pastors Parsons and Lehman, neighbor Rhonda Burns, the Spanish Fort Police department, the local Ambulance service and yard man Don Hansen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mrs. Volkman’s name be made to PCA, 620 Ziegler Circle W., Mobile, AL 36608.
